This documentary really was the best final project, due to the fact that it combined all of the aspects that we were suppose to learn in English in one final thing. We had to make sure our thesis was presented well do to the fact that it can easily be lost in all the computer effects. We also have to focalize in our audience and we are able to show what are fellow peers have to say about the subject. Now the benefit this project has over a paper is the fact that we are also able to add a great deal of creativity into the paper, in the visual aspect. We can show the audience what is going through the writer/directors mind when ever they are making that statement. Also you are able to effect the mood in several ways in video, you can do it by coloring, what people are saying, how they are saying it, location and the music. This adds a variety of things that can be happening all at once which can really make people think the way you want them to.

This also gave a whole new problems that we as the directors would have to get past. Not only do we have to make sure our written point is correct and well made, but we have to also make sure the visual or hearing aspects of the video do not contradict each other at all. Or else we might be sending out mixed signals. All in all i though this documentary project was a really go twist on what i have usually done in all my English classes,

Shooting Schedule

I plan on getting a all my basic question outline and really focalize what I am doing after I am doing by this Wed. and confirming that my plan of action is good after i visit with you on Wed.

After that i plan on doing my shooting on Friday and through the weekend, When start editing at the start of next week

Proposal Final

I want to find out about the deeper reason behind Facebook. I am interested if subconsciously people are using Facebook in order to tell other what they are doing in real life, so they use their virtual life to make their real life more interesting. Or is the opposite true? Do people do things in real life in order for their virtual identity in to seem more entertaining and make others think more highly, in this case they use the real world to improve their virtual world.

Now the audiences in this documentary are going to be other UK freshman, the reason I am focusing on them is because this documentary is about how people are using either Facebook or the real life to improve their social status, and UK freshman students usually participate in similar social things. So the question becomes are people more interested in their virtual life or the real life. The people I plan on interviewing for this are the ones who go to these social events like Basketball games, and those who participate in a lot of these events. Now the reason these students should care about this is it gives them an understanding for things that they might have done or want to do. It also gives insight to the motives on why they might have done certain things in their life, and this can provide some information about it.

Now I plan on shooting around campus especially where people go in order to hang out and be social. These are the places that I am interested in because they are being social and almost everyone has a Facebook so they would have to the two components that make up this question. Now I’m not exactly sure of my shooting schedule yet, it really depends on when I can get my questions together. The main difficulty will be in these questions, because people will not admit that they do things because of Facebook, because saying you got into something because it was popular on Facebook, so I am going to have to find a way to get around the topic, but not be to direct with it.

Now as of right now I am planning to make this documentary in the flow of, starting out with the two questions. In this part of the documentary I will be talking about my two questions, and I am going to talking about how these two things can take place, and how they could actually happen and why they happen. Then towards the middle will be the point that I am talking to people, and getting information out of them. Then the last part of the documentary will be when I am combining all of the information in order to get an answer to my question. I will then describe the answer and talk about why I think that is that answer and what it says about people.

Proposal Draft

For my documentary I am going to observe how Facebook changes people. By this I am wondering if people act differently in the real world so they are able to talk about it in their cyber world. If the power of the all mighty “like” button can make people go out and do things they usually wouldn’t do in order to get likes on their Facebook. Or maybe people saw things on Facebook that got popularity and they wanted to become a part of it so they could join that group of people and make them seem more popular on their cyber profile.

Now I big difficulty in this subject is finding people to interview. The difficult part is that no one would want to admit that they are doing things only for Facebook likes, or that they joined certain groups just because they wanted to see the popularity in their Facebook rise. To get around this I am going to have to find ways to get the information I need, but not at a direct approach. My questions are going to have to be very carefully worded, because people will get defensive about it if I go directly at it, and then I will not be able to get the information I need.

Now I would want to interview people that are in sports or clubs, because they may have become interested in them because of things that they saw off of Facebook, or saw a rise in popularity of that through it. Other people I would like to interview are those who go to things like concerts, plays, or anything like that, because they might be wanting to go to the so they can post pictures and make them seem outgoing, and very exciting.

Now the shots I would be looking for in this documentary are pretty much where people do things that could be entertaining to talk about or even that are boring, but they can talk about how they have to do these things and get response. Some of the entertaining things might be like, movies, and any stadiums. Now some examples of the boring things could be like at the library, where someone can talk about how they have to study all day for school, and then people can respond saying like how they feel badly for them and those types of things.

Now in this documentary I am really focusing on how people not only do things for Facebook, but all social media. I am just really interested in how people try to combine things like a virtual world and the real world, and try to use one in order to improve the other. And I am also interested in which one people are trying to improve. I have been focusing on how people use the real world to make them seem more popular or more entertaining in the virtual world, but I have to also accept the fact that I might be thinking of this in the opposite way. Maybe it is the fact that people use Facebook or any other social media in order to make announcements about there real word events which would help improve that part of it.

Dark Days

I found that there were many interesting things that the director decided to, things like how they decided on the color, how they decided to show train pass many times, the order of events, and where they did most of the shooting. All of these things combined in order to make a very interesting documentary.

Now I am going to start at the beginning where I found this almost the most interesting part of the documentary. Now obviously a big choice that the director decided to do was to make the film in black and white, now this is something I really didn’t understand and I think that the video would have just been as effective if they decided to make it in color. The only reason that I can really think of that would make them want to do it in black and white, were to make a point how black and white television seems makes it seem very primitive, and it relates how these homeless people have to live primitively, they are unable to have any fancy things or all the luxuries that we don’t even think about.

The things they were showing and what the people were saying were mostly positive. They were almost promoting all of the benefits of being homeless.  A guy was talking about how he can choose his own hours to do what ever he wants, how they have electricity and they can use it all day, but they never have to pay for it. Also they made there houses even though they were made out of wood and very primitive things, they made it seem cozy. Then they eventually move on to talking about all the pets they have, which I didn’t really think about many homeless people having but they talked about a lot how some have had many, many pets and multiple pets at the same time. Now this just seemed to interest me, because you view homeless people as very poor people, but not only are they able to maintain pets but they also mention how on some nights they are able to make enough money to last them the weekend, and allows them to do what they want and relax. This is why I think they kept on showing the train driving by, shows that as they are happy and talking about the positive things it keeps on bringing up the fact that their house is in a subway.

Now as the documentary moved on it started turning negative. They talk about how they have to fight rats off, almost every night and they can sometimes be over ran by them, also they talk about how things can get so serious that they burn each others houses down. They have several people talk about their lives, how they lost their family and lost everything due to mostly drugs, and they show how they are eating out of the trash cans, and they show the rough part of their lives. Then they show how it seems as if society seems to turn against them and kicks them out of their only house.

But as things seem at the lowest they show how society actually does care and they come back in order to help. They show how society helps them off of the streets and help get them into an apartment of their own, and help them get their lives back on track
